“I will never forget that moment: everything was louder, and when I got in my car and used the turn signal, I could hear that ‘click, click, click’,” Andrea said, recalling the first time she used a hearing aid. “It was mind-blowing.” In college, Andrea could not afford hearing aids, despite knowing that they could dramatically help her daily and academic life. She got in touch with ServiceSource Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) in Coral Springs, FL, who helped her find the assistive technology and financial assistance she needed. “All of the services I received have made a tremendous impact. You don’t realize at first how important they each are,” said Andrea. Andrea graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing, where she graduated with her Bachelors of Nursing in May of 2017 with a 3.2 GPA; Andrea passed the NCLEX Nursing Board Exam on the first try.
Andrea’s dream job was to work at the Cleveland Clinic in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and she was ecstatic when she was offered an interview. Andrea’s VR Counselor helped Andrea prepare. “Having my Counselor to walk me through this process really improved my confidence. She helped me find a professional outfit that I can use for any professional endeavor. I feel she went above and beyond and actually did a lot more for me then her job description might state,” said Andrea.
Andrea just celebrated her fifth month as a Nurse at Cleveland Clinic: “I knew this is where I needed to work, something connected to my heart and soul. The best part of my job is getting to be there for my patients. I want to help them get better so they can go home and do the things they love, because I am getting to do what I love.”
