2018 ServiceSource Spring Wine Dinner
The ServiceSource Foundation held its 13th Annual Spring Wine Dinner at the Phoenix Park Hotel on Thursday, May 17. The evening was an extraordinary success, raising more than $480,000 in support of people with disabilities.
The Spring Wine Dinner is an evening like no other. It is a small and intimate event, with no more than 100 people in attendance. Guests enjoyed a wine tasting and silent auction, followed by a four-course meal that was thoughtfully selected and carefully prepared by the very talented Chefs of Marriott. Chef’s Laura Bartholomew, Thais Rodriguez, Jennifer O’Brien, Lara Brown Ferry and Greg Basalla were led by Foundation Trustee and Marriott’s Vice President, Culinary Discipline & Global Corporate Chef, Brad Nelson, and supported by the Blossom Daily Café’s Catherine Sebring and Mark Jones. The wines were generously donated by Trellis Wine Group.
Sponsors included: Gold Plus: Playa Hotel & Resorts; Choice Hotels International, Inc.; Marriott International, Inc.; Gold: STG International, Inc.; Cushman & Wakefield; Silver: Chesapeake Lodging Trust, Crestline Hotels & Resorts, Inc., DiamondRock Hospitality Company, HEI Hotels & Resorts, Hogan Lovells US LLP, Digital Office Products and Bronze: Beecher Carlson; Deutsche Bank; EY; Hilton; Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Tom and Robin Portman.
The ServiceSource Foundation has raised nearly $11 million since its inception in 2004. More than $5 million of that total has been raised through the Annual Spring Wine Dinner. One hundred percent of the money raised at the Spring Wine Dinner is used in direct support of people and programs at ServiceSource.
Attendees participated in a live auction and supported a Flash Fundraiser for the $1 for $1 Community Assistance Endowment match campaign. When doubled, the Flash Fundraiser secured $50,000 towards the Endowment.

New Initiatives in FY 2018
- Double Your Impact by supporting the Community Assistance Endowment. The ServiceSource Foundation embarked on a five-year $1 for $1 match campaign to raise $2.5 million from donors to create a $5 million-dollar Endowment. Up to $500,000 of your donor dollars will be matched each year for five years. The Endowment will provide resources for many unique, yet critical, needs that are often not funded, to include home supports, assistive technology and barrier removal for employment. We encourage donors to make a five-year pledge commitment.
- Help us raise $1.3 million in pledge commitments to create Friendship House Fayetteville. This innovative transitional housing program pairs individuals with disabilities who live with healthcare professional students in one of three homes being built in Fayetteville, NC.
- Consider making a legacy gift through our Planned Giving Program.
- You may also make an unrestricted gift to the Foundation. Your donation will be used where it is needed most.
Autism Spectrum Services: Your donations have helped meet the needs of the growing number of people on the Autism Spectrum who need employment and wrap around supports.
ServiceSource assists individuals with autism in developing employment strategies and opportunities. Our staff is committed to building job skills, providing interview coaching, and case-management support throughout third-party employment for individuals on the Autism Spectrum. More than 100 people are served annually in our Autism Spectrum Services program.
Habilitation & Expressive Therapy Programs: Since 2011, your donations have contributed $750,000 to fund expressive therapies such as music, art, dance, yoga, and therapeutic horseback riding for thousands of people in our long-term services.
ServiceSource provides long-term services that focus on community integration. Funding for our habilitation programs provides resources for expressive therapies such as music, art, dance, yoga and therapeutic horseback riding. Each year more than 300 individuals participate in one or more expressive therapies. Funding from donors accounts for approximately 33 percent of the total program costs.
Family Support Services: Your donations make this program possible by funding 100 percent of the total program costs.
Family Support Services help families navigate a myriad of resources to include benefits, insurance, technology, transportation and provide in-home supports and companion care necessary for their loved ones. Your donations provide support and peace of mind to hundreds of individuals and family members each year and may also be used to innovate our Assistive Technology Lab where we screen people and teach families how to use the latest, relevant technology.
Volunteer Services Program: Your donations make the volunteer services program by funding 100 percent of the total program costs.
The volunteer services program connects volunteers from our community to ServiceSource and also shares the talents of our participants with the community. The volunteer services program coordinates more that 1,600 volunteer hours annually and raised more than $35,000 for sustainable volunteer projects.
Senior Services: Your donations help integrate seniors who have disabilities in our community.
ServiceSource supports 14 senior centers in Fairfax County. Your donations allow ServiceSource to integrate seniors who have disabilities with seniors who are participating in community-integrated senior services.
Friendship House: With your support, we are raising the roof in North Carolina to create Friendship House Fayetteville – an intentional living community that pairs people with disabilities with healthcare professional students.
ServiceSource North Carolina is leading a Capital Campaign to raise $1.3 million to build three, intentional living homes in Fayetteville. For full details or to donate to this donor restricted campaign, click here.
DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT – Through a $1 for $1 match campaign, your donations are doubled to help us create a $5 million Community Assistance Endowment.

At your death, your assets will pass to potentially three places: taxes, your loved one and/or the charities you support. To maximize the legacy you leave to your heirs and charities you care about, consider leaving assets that receive a tax beneficial step up in basis, such as appreciated real estate and stock, to your heirs. And consider leaving your retirement assets such as 401(k)s, 403(b)s and IRAs to The ServiceSource Foundation. If left to your heirs, retirement assets are oftentimes 100 percent taxable, however, if left to a charity such as ServiceSource, the retirement assets are not taxed. Step up in basis is the readjustment of the value of an appreciated asset for tax purposes upon inheritance, determined to be the higher market value of the asset at the time of inheritance.
Creating a legacy through legacy giving is easy to do. Simply include The ServiceSource Foundation in your will or Trust using the language below, or designate The ServiceSource Foundation as the beneficiary of your account or life insurance policy. Please let us know of your intent so that we can keep a record on file. Intent is non-binding and can be changed at any time. To maximize the benefit to you, consider talking to a financial advisor or click here to review information on our Planned Giving Website.

Include ServiceSource in Your Estate Plan
You can make a specific gift to the Foundation of cash, securities, real estate or other property through your will, codicil or trust instrument. You can also designate the Foundation as the beneficiary of all or part of the remainder of your estate or trust after the payment of estate-related expenses, other bequests, or following the death of a spouse or other primary beneficiaries. Another way to include the Foundation in your estate plan is to name the organization as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.
A bequest or trust provision for the benefit of the Foundation may qualify your estate for an estate tax charitable deduction.
Sample Testamentary Language
“I give (_______ dollars) or (a specific asset, such as securities, real estate or other property) or (all) or
(_______ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate) to the ServiceSource Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia
( for its general purposes) or ( for the following purpose: ______________________________________).”
Unrestricted gifts allow the Foundation to allocate funds to areas of greatest need. If you prefer, you may designate your bequest for a particular purpose or use by a specific program or activity at the Foundation. In order to ensure that the evolving needs of future generations of participants are met, it is advisable to include the following language with restricted gifts: If due to changed circumstances it becomes impractical, in the judgment of the ServiceSource Foundation, to apply my bequest to the designated purpose(s), the ServiceSource Foundation may apply some or all of my bequest to such other purposes as it determines will best recognize my interests consistent with its organizational priorities.
If you wish to document your bequest intention at this time, please complete our Bequest Intention Form.
