About the Program

A competency-based and highly individualized program that assists individuals in gaining the skills necessary for entry-level jobs in their chosen area of work. Participants learn skills in a real work setting and participate in job readiness classes where they learn job searching skills. We offer job training in the following specific areas:

Business Technology Training

A self-paced training program that provides participants with the skills necessary to obtain an entry-level clerical or administrative assistant position. Heavy emphasis is placed on computer skills. Other skills taught include: filing and records management, keyboarding, office etiquette, telephone skills and ten-key calculator. Core training areas include general clerical, medical office, data entry, customer service, call center, clerical support, and financial record keeping. Clerical Evaluation

ServiceSource Delaware’s Clerical and Office Skills Evaluation is designed to provide participants with a two-week evaluation to assist them in determining their interest and potential for success in the Clerical & Office Skills Training program, where they will prepare for occupations such as data entry, receptionist, financial record keeping, clerical/filing, etc. The areas participants will be evaluated on, include:

  • Reading and Math Skills
  • Software Applications
  • Telephone Test
  • Filing Test
  • Keyboarding/Typing Timing
  • Office Etiquette
  • Job Seeking Assessment
  • Effective Communication
  • 10 Key Calculator Skills
  • Customer Service

Clerical and Office Skills Training

ServiceSource Delaware’s Clerical and Office Skills Training Program is designed to assist participants in developing the skills to obtain jobs in entry-level office support positions such as Financial Record Keeping, Customer Service, Receptionist, Office Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Date Entry Clerk, and Medical Records Clerk.

Instruction is offered in:

  • General Computer Use
  • Office Software Applications
  • Records Management
  • Filing
  • Keyboarding/Typing
  • Office Etiquette
  • Telephone Skills
  • Call Center
  • 10 Key Calculator Skills
  • Customer Service

The program provides classroom instruction, simulated work, and on-the-job training. Internships may also be provided for participants.

Eligibility and Exit Criteria 

Participants must be at least 16 years of age and referred by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the Division for the Visually Impaired (DVI), or another funding source.  In addition, participants must possess self-care skills and have a strong desire to work.

Community-Based Job Skills Training

Retail Skills Training

ServiceSource Delaware’s 4-week Retail Skills Training program is open-entry/open-exit so the program can begin at any time*. The program partners with participating Walgreens stores that express interest in hosting the training. Participants are referred to the program and sponsored by the Delaware Division of Vocation Rehabilitation (DVR).

The hours for training are based on each site’s needs; however, participants should prepare to work 20 hours per week. Participants receive 80 hours of occupational skills training combined with classroom training (soft skills and retail/customer service topics), and are paid, at the Delaware State minimum wage, for 80 hours of on the job training working side by side with Walgreens personnel. Participants will also receive support from ServiceSource Delaware’s Employment Consultants.

100% of this training program occurs within Walgreens stores, and as noted, all training materials are developed by Walgreens, immersing participants within a contextualized work-learning environment. All participants are paid during the training. Following REDI training, participants will develop easily transferable the skills for similar retail establishments. In addition, retailers are eager to recruit participants who have completed REDI training. For more information, contact 302-762-0300.

*Between 2-3 participants are required to conduct a REDI Retail Training session.

Hospitality Skills Training

ServiceSource Delaware’s 4-week Hospitality Skills Training program is open-entry/open-exit so the program can begin at any time*. The program partners with local hotels including the Westin Hotel in Wilmington and Embassy and Homewood Suites in Newark. Participants are referred to the program and sponsored by the Delaware Division of Vocation Rehabilitation (DVR).

The hours for training are based on each host hotel’s needs (20 hours per week); however, participants should prepare to work 20 hours per week. Participants receive 80 hours of occupational skills training combined with classroom training (soft skills and hospitality topics), and are paid, at the Delaware State minimum wage, for 80 hours of on the job training working side by side with hotel personnel. Participants will also receive support from ServiceSource Delaware’s Employment Consultants.

100% of this training program occurs within the host hotel, and as noted, all training materials are developed in collaboration with hotel management, immersing participants within a contextualized work-learning environment. All participants are paid during the training. Following Hospitality training, participants will develop easily transferable skills for similar hotel establishments.
