Congresswoman Barbara Comstock Becomes AbilityOne Champion
Congresswoman Barbara Comstock of Virginia’s 10th Congressional District was honored today as AbilityOne Congressional Champion by SourceAmerica. ServiceSource nominated Congresswoman Comstock as an “elected federal policymaker who has demonstrated support for the AbilityOne Program and for related community-based nonprofit agencies through congressional actions while supporting the enhancement of opportunities for economic and personal independence of persons with disabilities.”
About the AbilityOne Program
The AbilityOne Program is among the nation’s largest providers of jobs for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. SourceAmerica, a nonprofit that creates business solutions that benefit both customers and the disability community, was established in 1974 to support and implement the Federal AbilityOne Program.
Accepting AbilityOne Champion Award
The Congresswoman accepted the AbilityOne Champion Award at ServiceSource Community Integration Center in Chantilly, VA. “Work is a moral value for all of us,” said the Congresswoman. “It’s a privilege to stand with you, to stand for you, and thank you for all you do for the Federal Government,” she said to her constituents, including who are employed through ServiceSource AbilityOne contracts. Heather Broncher and Amber Brownell work in the Department of Commerce Mailroom, and David Raxsdale is a Technical Writer at the Architect of the Capitol.
Fairfax County Supervisors John Cook of the Braddock District and Pat Herrity of the Springfield District attended the ceremony and gave remarks about the important impact of community partnerships that support people with disabilities.
Dan August from M.C. Dean, Inc and ServiceSource Board Members, Paul Thieberger and Albert Wu also attended the event.
After the ceremony, the Congresswoman toured the ServiceSource Community Integration Center at Chantilly. She met some of the individuals who are a part of the program, and learned about the important services ServiceSource provides for individuals with disabilities and the community.
