Career Growth for AbilityOne Employees

ServiceSource is committed to providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities to learn new skills and elevate their careers. Our recently launched Employee Development Program (EDP), designed specifically for employees working in the AbilityOne® Program, helps bridge the gap between job placement and career growth by providing the resources, training, and support employees need for long-term success.

Through the EDP, ServiceSource ensures that AbilityOne employees have access to career development opportunities tailored to their interests and skills. The program offers a framework that connects these employees to the training and resources needed for career advancement. Whether they seek a career in customer service, hospitality, information technology (IT), or another field, the ServiceSource EDP can help employees chart a path to reach their goals.

Recent Success: Expanding Skills Through the ServiceSource IT Internship Program

AbilityOne employees Malik Price and Mason Shi are recent examples of how the EDP is providing opportunities to gain valuable skills that help AbilityOne employees advance in their careers.

Malik’s manager Sharlene Covington recognized his interest in IT and referred him to the EDP.  Once enrolled in the EDP, Malik and Mason were each assigned a Career Development Specialist (CDS) who quickly identified the IT Internship Program as a strong fit for their goals and facilitated their transition into the program. A collaborative effort between managers on the contract and the assigned CDS is essential to identifying high potential candidates.

Launched in August 2022, the IT Internship Program teaches interns new skills while they work within the IT Department at ServiceSource headquarters. During the course of 12 months, interns gain hands-on experience and explore various functional areas while building job readiness and practical expertise.

“Every time I work on a project, I feel like I get faster and more efficient,” said Malik. “I’ve also built valuable connections and have mentors I can turn to for advice about my career interests like network security.”

Malik and Mason are both receiving continuing support from their CDS while participating in the internship at ServiceSource headquarters, where their work is guided by the IT team. As they complete the program, their CDSs will assist them in their job search process.
