ServiceSource Stomping Out Stigma

ServiceSource is raising awareness to voices not often heard during National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Published in In the News

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. In the era of this pandemic, it’s now more important than ever that we take steps to prevent suicide and support mental health. From learning the warning signs of suicide to advocating for legislation to openly discussing mental health, we can learn new ways to help each other save lives and #KeepGoing.

As a leader for inclusion, ServiceSource is standing up to support mental health by sponsoring the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention‘s Out of the Darkness (OOTD) Experience in Fairfax, VA on October 3 as a Silver Sponsor. We have also put together a corporate team for the event – ServiceSource Stomping Out Stigma. This year, participants will connect virtually throughout the event as they walk in their own communities to support those affected by suicide and raise awareness.

Bethany Tobin, Employment Development Specialist from ServiceSource Virginia is leading our participation as Team Captain. “Our team is proud to bring attention to the issue of suicide and the effects it can have not only on an individual, but also a family and a community. Participating in this event is our small way of helping individuals who often feel overlooked or left behind. We want to make the struggle felt by so many visible, normalizing an issue many people feel unable to talk about.”

If you are interested in joining us or know someone who is, please visit our team page on the AFSP website to register. If you have already registered as an individual, you can also update your profile and join our team.

Please note you are not required to donate or meet any fundraising goals in order to participate. We also encourage you to follow the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) when walking in your own community.
