July 26, 2020 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This revolutionary act became law in 1990 and prohibits discrimination based on disability and ensures that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. At ServiceSource, our leadership, employees, participants, donors and families value inclusive communities and we are honored to celebrate 30 years of progress by giving #ThanksToTheADA.
ServiceSource was started by a group of parents who wanted more progressive opportunities for their adult children who had disabilities. Since then, ServiceSource has fostered supportive communities in which individuals with disabilities can succeed and thrive.
Thanks to the ADA, the people we serve have access to opportunities that were unavailable to them 30 years ago. This act helped reduce barriers, change perceptions and increase access to all areas of public life. At ServiceSource, we greatly value the protections afforded by the ADA, particularly those that place the needs of people with disabilities on an equal level with others. The resulting advancement in public service, education, employment, and more has encouraged our country to rethink what inclusive and accessible communities look like.
This past year, ServiceSource served more than 29,000 individuals. We provided direct, supported or facilitated employment to more than 3,000 individuals who have disabilities, engaged with more than 630 participants in community-based programs and enrolled nearly 2,700 in veterans, autism, senior or housing services. We also supported people with accessible transportation and helped identify assistive technology for individuals who need it. We are grateful to be called upon to fulfill our mission and will work to continue to expand ways people of all abilities can be successful.
