ServiceSource Employees Get “Money Smart” |
New Financial literacy program offered to individuals with disabilities
ServiceSource is committed not only to providing valued employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities, but also to helping people succeed in the workplace and enhance their overall quality of life. One aspect of post-employment success is sound financial management. As part of a corporate commitment initiative, ServiceSource is now offering a financial literacy training program to its employees with disabilities that will help them develop the financial management skills necessary to foster a future of economic stability and success. The program assists employees in learning skills that will enable them to increase their savings, purchase assets and improve their overall financial health and well-being.
ServiceSource's financial literacy program for employees was adapted from the 'Money Smart-Train-the Trainer' course offered by The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). From this program, ServiceSource has developed six financial literacy training modules:
- Module I - Money Matters: This module focuses on spending and savings plans with many saving tips included in the participant guide.
- Module II - Bank On It: This module focuses on knowing the workings of financial institutions, comparing various checking accounts and touches upon 'other investment options'.
- Module III - To Your Credit: Focuses on credit and how to use credit cards to one's advantage.
- Module IV - 'Loan to Own': A comprehensive look at auto and home loans.
- Module V -' Invest on Yourself': Retirement options to include bonds, stocks and investment options
- Module VI -' Financial Recovery': Overhauling one's spending and saving habits and options to get out of debt.
To date, over 400 program participants have been trained in Module I and II with extremely positive feedback.
